HIGHLIGHTS FROM ASCENSION CHRISTIAN SCHOOL
from Mark Pellegrin, Superintendent
THANK YOU! WE ARE BACK ON CAMPUS!
Hugs and smiles were seen everywhere as teachers from Ascension Christian Elementary welcomed students back to their school for the first time since the August flood.
It has been a very challenging time for so many families, but slowly things are becoming routine again. The students, their families, and teachers have been challenged to manage a platoon system at the high school campus since August. Getting students back to their campus has been the focus of so many of you. Your contributions of time, money, and prayers have made the efforts happen faster than expected.
The renovations of the school campus included over 50,000 square feet of build
ings that included classrooms, cafeteria, commons areas, kitchen, and playgrounds.
For the first time in over four months, students stepped into the buildings with their eyes and mouths open wide in amazement of their new classrooms and surroundings.
We are all so thankful to you for your generosity and support during these difficult times. In spite of the challenges we face, Ascension Christian is committed to being a light to others and a place where the youth of Ascension Parish find hope in a good God!
2016 ACT SCORES
The 2016 ACT scores at Ascension Christian have reached another milestone. The composite scores have increased from 21.5 to 22.7 for the 2016 seniors. The scores continue to surpass the state averages and national averages in all subject areas. School Principal Kadie Benz said everyone is so proud of their achievement.
“Each year we can only speculate as to what the scores might be. These scores are exceptional. We are so proud of what these students have accomplished. “

ASCENSION CHRISTIAN CHRISTMAS CONCERT
Ascension Christian music directors Dr. Borislava Iltcheva and Aaron Farrell organized the annual Christmas concert at Ascension Christian High. Students from the elementary, junior high and high schools were excited to perform for faculty, parents, friends, and relatives. The concert featured performances by students concentrating in piano, violin, and cello. Students performed various Christmas carols and other works.
Ascension Christian School Piano Lab
Through the generosity of the Lamar Family Foundation, Ascension Christian was awarded a grant to support the development of a music program at the school. The piano lab at the school is one of the most impressive labs around, said Ascension Christian music director Dr. Borislava Iltcheva.
“I teach in numerous schools and I’m telling you this is one of the finest piano labs anywhere around. I am so appreciative of the Lamar Family and the vision they have to provide children with the opportunity to learn music.”
Ascension Christian School also supports students in learning string instruments such as the violin, viola, and the cello. Because of the grant students are able to take music classes as young as K4 through high school.
